Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal is probably one of my all-time favorite movies. As a kid, it opened up my imagination and showed me a world filled with wonders.
Now, it has been announced that a new series based on the 80s movie will be heading to Netflix. The series will be called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and will consist of 10 episodes. Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk, Transporter) will be directing and producing. And before you get concerned, Netflix has also revealed that the series will stay true to Jim Henson’s vision by using a combination of puppetry and CG.
The official description from Netflix reveals that both the Gelflings and the Skeksis will be making a return. No news yet on whether we will be seeing any of the urRu.
“When three Gelfling discovers the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”
Along with the announcement, Netflix also released a teaser trailer for the series. No news yet on when it will be releasing, but I’m hoping rather sooner than later.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Jim Henson’s work, and while I thoroughly enjoyed Labarynth, it’s The Dark Crystal that stole my heart and set my imagination free. I really, truly hope Netflix doesn’t screw this up.
