It seems Daisy Ridley’s days as Rey in Star Wars are numbered. While promoting the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the actress, made her debut in 2015’s The Force Awakens, told Rolling Stone that she might not be returning after she completes her contract.
Episode IX will be the “right time to round it out”
No. For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.
Rey might only just be realising her abilities as a Jedi, but actress Daisy Ridley is only signed up for three films. Of course, this news goes completely against the word of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy who recently revealed that the character would continue on in Star Wars stories beyond the current trilogy. “We’re sitting down now, we’re talking about the next 10 years of Star Wars stories and we’re looking at, narratively, where that might go,” Kennedy said. “Future stories beyond Episode IX with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8.”
Baring all this in mind, Ridley didn’t rule out the possibility of returning in the distant future:
Who knows? I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells… then sure. Maybe. But again, it’s like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it.
Ok…bye!
