With the whole world in the training grip of COVID-19, and most of us in some stage of lockdown, gamers have started to see eerie connections between what is currently happening and what we’ve seen in some recently released games, including the PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man game.
Games have always been inspired in some way or other by real life, and nowhere is this more clear than when taking a look at the recent Spider-Man PS4 game, which sees the villain, Doctor Octopus, releasing a deadly virus on New York. Of course, this causes the whole city to go into lockdown.
It’s during this section of the game that New York residents are urged to stay home and, looking back at some of the warnings on billboards and some of the broadcasts, one realises just how similar it is to what many have been experiencing across the world.

The same goes for The Division series, which again revolves around a deadly virus breaking out and causing havoc with humanity.
Even Kojima’s Death Stranding takes place in a world where people live in self-isolation and practise social distancing due to a deadly and invisible threat.
It all seems eerily familiar. Did Insomniac’s Spider-Man predict COVID-19?
Unfortunately, in the real world, there is no superpowered spandex-wearing hero out to save the world. Instead, there are everyday men and women fighting the good fight in hospitals all across the world trying to stem the tide of the virus.
