With the hype surrounding the new God of War game reaching fever pitch, rumours have been floating around the internet that Sony was already planning a themed PlayStation 4 bundle. Now, while nothing has been confirmed as yet, Reddit user Huff2994 may have uncovered some evidence to back up these rumours.
Huff2994 posted a picture of what seems like a like a standard silver PlayStation Dualshock 4 controller with some sort of logo stuck on it. That symbol that is seen on the Dualshock 4 isn’t just any symbol, it’s the same symbol found on the game’s steelbook case. How did Huff2994 get their hands on the controller, you might ask? Well, according to his post, it was sent to them by Amazon when they ordered a Silver Dualshock 4 controller.
As with most rumours, this one has to be taken with a pinch of salt as there are no other images of the controller beyond this one, which does seem fishy. Of course, many think that this could be just a standard Dualshock 4 with a God of War sticker strategically placed on it as the rest of the controller looks quite standard, and dare I say it boring.
While no one can say for certain whether this is the real thing, it has sparked a debate with regards to special edition controllers. It seems many PlayStation 4 fans are complaining that Sony has been letting them down in this department recently, especially since Microsoft has released quite a few really good looking special edition controllers for the Xbox One lately.
When comparing the upcoming Sea of Thieves Xbox One controller with the recently release Gran Tourism Sport DualShock 4 controller, it soon becomes apparent that some of these gamers might have a point. Sony usually is just content with slapping an image on the right corner of the controller and calling it a special edition.
To Sony’s credit, however, there has also been some good looking special edition DualShock 4 controllers out there, but these are few and far between. It’s a shame actually, as Sony has quite a few great first-party exclusives under their belt that are just begging to get a detailed good-looking special edition DualShock 4 controller.
I’m hoping Sony realises this and give us the great-looking and detailed God of War and Last of Us 2 special edition controllers we all deserve.
