It seems the rumour mills have been working overtime lately with each week bring news about some upcoming new game. The latest of these rumours suggest the everybody’s favourite purple dragon, Spyro, could be making a return on the PlayStation 4.
According to sources who spoke with Kotaku, a remaster of the original Spyro trilogy is in the works at Activision. Apparently, the remaster of Spyro the Dragon, Gateway to Glimmer and Year of the Dragon will be in a similar vein as the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and will have improved (and shiny) new visuals, a remastered soundtrack and a few other tidbits to make fans of the franchise just a little happier. The remastered trilogy is said to be in good hands as Vicarious Visions, the same studio that worked on the Crash Bandicoot remaster, is rumoured to be working on the project.
The game is said to be announced next month and would most probably be released in the third quarter of the year. Of course, putting more fuel on the rumour fire is the fact that September 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the original PlayStation 1 Spyro game and the beginning of the franchise. The remaster is also said to release for the PlayStation 4 at first after which it would head to other consoles (similar to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy).
While this is still a rumour and needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, it does make sense that Activision would cash in on the Nostalgia N. Sane Trilogy, after receiving quite a lot of praise for their previous release.
