Converse X Soulgoods Brings Beijing Local Culture to the World

Following Converse’s successful collaboration with Keith Haring for the Converse X Todd Snyder collection, the brand is back with another collab. The brand has partnered with the popular Beijing-based streetwear brand, SOULGOODS, for the Converse X SOULGOODS collection. The aim of the drop is to bring Beijing local culture to the world.

For its first collaboration with Converse, SOULGOODS highlights their iconic “soul tiger” logo, the heart of the brand’s image. The tiger is a traditional Chinese cultural symbol of “transmitting positive energy”, especially in terms of driving off evil spirits and invite good luck in. The collaboration is a representation of Beijing’s youth culture.

As part of the first drop, the collection features two of Converse’s most iconic silhouettes, Jack Purcell and Chuck 70 canvas. Directly from its archives, the tiger graphic takes over both sneakers as part of the pack.

The Chuck 70 is featured in an orange colourway, while the Jack Purcell is available in grey colourway.

It features a canvas upper with SOULGOODS print to resemble the head of a tiger. Further to its orange theme, the sneaker includes its Chuck Taylor logo patch in the form of a “tiger eye.”

The colour scheme is further highlighted by means of the black laces and black toe cap. Additionally, the toe cap serves as the tiger’s nose. Moving to the soles, the sneakers read “From Beijing” on the right foot and “To The World” on the left.

When it comes to the Jack Purcell Ox, it sports a similar design to the Chuck 70. However, in contrast, the toe-cap sticks to its signature “smile.” The low-top sneaker has a matte-printed canvas upper. An oversized tiger logo print is featured as well.

The design features multilayered cushioning for a high level of comfort, with the vintage licence plate finishing off the classic look.

The Converse X Soulgoods Chuck 70 is available at R1,399 and the Jack Purcell at R1,299.
