The success of The Conjuring has spawned many spin-offs, including two Annabelle movies and one based on Valek the nun. Now, the Crooked Man, the character who made his debut in The Conjuring 2, is getting his own film.
Horror will be excited to hear that Mike Van Waes has been hired to pen a script based on a story by James Wan. Wan has been instrumental in creating the universe after directing both Conjuring films for Warner Bros. The studio is clearly happy with the work he has done and continues to grow the franchise. When you consider that collectively the films have made over $895 million worldwide, it makes sense to do so.
The Crooked Man character is based on a popular English nursery rhyme:
“There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile. He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse. And they all lived together in a little crooked house.”
Wan is also set to direct The Conjuring 3, which is currently in the early stages of development.
