With a new Transformers cartoon airing on Cartoon Network comes the obligatory new Transformers toys. We take a look at the recently released Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure (what a mouthful!) and see if it lives up to the high standards the toys have become known for.
The Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Optimus Prime At First Glance
When looking at the figure in its colourful packaging, a few things come to mind. First off, just how cool looking the design of the Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Optimus Prime is and, secondly, how far we’ve advanced since the original toys released in the 80s.
As pointed out on the box, and has become standard with most of the Transformers toys out there, the Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure has a few tricks up its sleeve, which we’ll get to in a bit.
The packaging Optimus Prime comes in is less functional and more about displaying the figure. It is open at the front which allows would-be customers to touch the figure and even activate its sound and light-up feature. Sure the open front does not offer much protection but allowing a customer to actually see what they are getting and be able to have limited interaction with it is a great way to entice them to get the toy.
Autobots Roll Out
After removing the Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure from its packaging, you’ll be greeted by a few accessories that your newly acquired Transformer can wield. There is his Energon chest piece, which can be a bit finicky to slot into place, his two Energon Claws and, most importantly, his Energon sword. All these accessories are made of durable translucent plastic and look great on the figure.
As for the figure itself, as we’ve come to expect from Hasbro, it’s well painted with no visible overlapping and has quite a bit of detail on it.
The top part of its body has great articulation as well, with its elbow and shoulder joints being able to move. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for its bottom half, which has very limited articulation due to its transformation feature.
Other than the articulation, the figure looks great, is solidly built and comes with some great accessories.
Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Optimus Prime Lights and Action
The main draw of the Transformers Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure is its transform feature. By following a few basic steps, Optimus Prime is transformed from his robot form into his truck form. It is a very basic transformation, but it looks good and is functional.
The previously mentioned sword plays a very important role, so make sure to not lose it, as it locks the figure into its vehicle form. Once it is removed, the figure seamlessly and in one motion transforms into its robot form. It’s a nice little feature and one that worked better than I could have expected.
My only issue with the transformation is that it is literally on a hair-trigger, which meant that on multiple occasions the figure springs back into robot form while I was trying to transform it. This does take some getting used to.
As for lights and sound, the Transformers Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure has 10 sounds that play when the button on its chest is pressed. These range from battle sounds to Optimus Prime spouting one-liners to the sound of his engine revving.
Along with the sounds, his chest lights up. Overall these features work great.

More Than Meets The Eye
The Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure is yet another solid and great looking figure from Hasbro. You do lose a bit of articulation due to the figure’s transformation action but this is not a deal-breaker as the figure still offers a lot of playability in both robot and vehicle form.
The lights and sounds add another welcome level of interactivity and hearing Optimus Prime shout “Autobots”, or hearing the familiar transforming sound, always gets fans excited.
Overall, the Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Roll N’ Change Optimus Prime 10-inch figure is a great addition to the Transformers line of toys and would make a welcome gift for that special fan in your life.
