Dragon Age: Magekiller #1 Review

Storyline: B+

Artwork: B+

An all-new story set in the immersive dark-fantasy world of video game developer BioWare’s Dragon Age!

Taking place before the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Marius and Tessa become Magekillers (mercenaries hired to stop rogue magic users), a job that requires many sacrifices, constant relocation and being incognito at all times. Marius is a man who feels he is destined to be a Magekiller. There is nothing else he was meant to be in life. Unfortunately, he does not take pleasure in what he does and at times it seems as though he feels troubled.

The two are approached by an elf named Flavius who has come to them with a proposition from his master. They take an interest in what his master requires but, most importantly, what he has to offer them in return. The master turns out to be The Magister of Illenava of Minrathous. Marius refuses to return to Tevinter. Flavius begs for Marius to reconsider helping, but Marius does not give in until he enlightens Marius of their latest evil deeds; the sacrificing of children.

They arrive in the Valarian Fields, just north of the Minrathous, a nation governed by magic and the last place you would want to find yourself if you are a Magekiller. When entering the premises, they not only find out that Flavious has lied about the sacrifices being made but meet his master, who seems to have other intentions for Marius and Tessa.

The artwork looks awesome, detailed and is very riveting. Fight scenes and blood is exactly what I would expect from a comic named Magekiller. The story line is one that I would definitely follow. It offers something new. I can’t wait to see how the Dragon Age: Magekiller story progresses.
