Official promo art gives us a sneak peek at who the villain will be in the new Black Adam movie.

Who is Black Adam?

Without spoiling too much, Black Adam and many of the characters in his universe are bestowed powers by gods or empowered by other-worldly beings. Theo Adam Tethon was bestowed his powers by ancient gods and was imprisoned soon after. The movie will follow him on his journey through a new and unfamiliar world.

The character was originally revealed in DC Comics back in the 1940s as a power-hungry villain for Shazam. It was only later, closer to the 2000s, that he evolved into the antihero that we see him as now.

A Villain or an Antihero?

Originally the enemy of Shazam, many thought that Black Adam would be the villain of his story, however, it appears that DC has other plans. Black Adam is portrayed more as an antihero, much like in the namesake comics of the 2000s. So who would be a villain to the villain of Shazam?

“The enemy of my enemy is also my enemy,” is the moral of the story in this one as a sneak peek at promo art and an action figure reveals the villain of the new Black Adam movie. The villain has been revealed as Sabbac, played by Marwan Kenzari.

Sabbac is often thought to be the antithesis, or the ‘dark opposite’, of the Shazam Family.

Very little has been revealed regarding Sabbac’s connection to Black Adam, especially with their main connection being a common enemy through Shazam, however, an epic battle between the antihero and the villain has been implied.

Who is Sabbac?

While DC has many die-hard fans that both watch the movies and read the comics, the average consumer of DC entertainment might not know who this demonic Sabbac is. He is often described as the dark opposite of Shazam. His name, ‘Sabbac’, is his power word, just as Shazam is for the Shazam family.

In some comics, he is described as the physical embodiment and manifestation of the Seven Deadly Sins of Man. Even his name is even known to be an acronym of the names of the demons that empower him: Satan, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Crateis.

Sabbac is thought to be one of the more powerful villains of the DC universe, with several heroes having to work together historically to take him down. When his power word is uttered, he manifests in a flash of black lightning that appears to originate from the underworld itself. He is described as a muscle-bound demonic being with super skills like strength, stamina, and speed. He can fly at will and breathe fire. He can even emit fire blasts from the palms of his hands.

Considering a small army of heroes had to take down this villain in the comics, and his impressive list of abilities and superpowers, the battle between Black Adam and this demonic being will surely be an epic one.

Tell us, do you think Sabbac is a good villain for the Black Adam movie?
