Coming soon to HBO is the true-crime documentary, Beware the Slender Man. Here is the really haunting trailer.
The Beware the Slender Man clip opens with a Blair Witch-style sequence. Then we see the Slender Man and the two 12-year-olds who became obsessed with the character. HBO’s handling of this subject matter looks particularly creepy. The trailer incorporates footage from the interviews suspects Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier did with investigators, as well as talking-head musings on the power of fictional ghouls, especially for children. In 2015, it was announced that both girls responsible for the attack would be tried as adults. If convicted, they face up to 40 years in prison. Chilling stuff!
The film follows the true story of two Wisconsin pre-teens who attacked their classmate because of the online Slender Man legend. Two 12-year-olds became obsessed with a Slender Man meme posted to the Something Awful website back in 2014. They lured their classmate out to the woods and stabbed her 19 times. Miraculously, the girl survived, and the two girls who attacked her were found wondering in the wood looking for the Slender Man mansion. The court case is still ongoing.
Beware the Slender Man premiers Monday, January 23rd.
