Yes, this is happening. Two of the greatest franchises team up to create an adventure unlike any other.

The Dark Knight comes face to face with the Heroes in a Half Shell. It would seem that due to some interdimensional travelling the Band of Brothers have landed in Gotham but this has not gone unnoticed. After all, Gotham is protected by the world’s greatest detective.

Somehow DC Comics and IDW have done a great job of bringing these two comics together. This six issue series sees all new heroes enter Gotham. But an all new enemy is not far behind. The Shedder is also teleported into the DC Universe. Bruce Wayne immediately senses that there is a new ninja in town. He rules out the League of Assassins and dons the cowl in order to find out a little more about these metahuman ninjas that have arrived in Gotham. It is only a matter of time before The Turtles cross paths with Batman and his infamous villains. In this issue they discover that there is a big bad reptile in the sewers and I am not referring to Raphael.

The art is great for the most part. The Turtles and all the mutants look rather great. The stylised art works well with their skin colours and texture. Bruce’s face is also highly stylised but it takes some getting used to as it looks elongated and out of proportion at times. The colours are dark and gritty so you definitely get the feel of Gotham, but The Turtles bring life to the page with both their presentation and actions.

All in all, this is a great idea that seems to be working well given that it is the first issue. It features characters that are literally and figuratively “worlds apart”. It will be interesting to see how this story turns out, especially since the Shredder and his Foot Clan are hidden in the shadows of Gotham.
