Did a Batman Returns Easter Egg predict the upcoming Flashpoint team-up? Movie fans these days are really good at brewing up the wildest conspiracies and theories about their favourite films and movie stars.
When news of Michael Keaton possibly reprising his role as Batman in The Flash movie broke, fans promptly did a deep dive into the actor’s old Batman movies.
After unearthing a 2018 video showing a scene from Batman Returns, some fans are now convinced that Keaton’s return was teased all the way back in 1992.

Directed by Tim Burton
Shown: Michael Keaton (as Batman), Danny Devito (as The Penguin)
The video of the charity ball scene with Bruce and Selina Kyle shows an extra in the background wearing a helmet similar to the one worn by Jay Garrick (the first superhero known as The Flash).
Could this Batman Returns Easter Egg really be 28 years in the making or just a massive coincidence?
Tim Burton could have included it because he’s a fan of the Golden Age Flash. Or perhaps one of the costume designers thought it would be fun to include a subtle Flash reference.
Realistically, Easter Eggs were hardly a thing back in the ’90s and while the helmet does look a lot like Garrick’s, it’s also the same helmet that’s worn by the Greek God Hermes.
Additionally, it’s extremely unlikely that a movie made in 1992 could’ve predicted what would happen in 2020, proving that sometimes a coincidence is nothing more than that.
It’s also worth noting that we’re still waiting for official confirmation that Keaton has signed on for the film. Hopefully, those talks with the studio go well.
In the meantime, you can take a closer look at the scene from Batman Returns in the video below…
