During their Stadia presentation, Google announced that developer Larian Studios was working on Baldur’s Gate 3. Of course, this was an announcement no one was expecting.
The Baldur’s Gate 3 announcement is a very exciting one as this is a franchise with a very loyal fanbase.
For those not familiar with the Baldur’s Gate franchise, these are RPG games based on Dungeons & Dragons and originally developed by BioWare. They were some of the most narrative-driven and most intricate RPGs of their time.
The game was rumoured to be in development but, to be honest, no one saw this annulment coming. Larian Studios is also the developer behind recent critically lauded RPG games such as Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, which makes the studio the perfect match for developing a new Baldur’s Gate game.
According to a press release from the studio, the game will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom. As with the previous games in the franchise, Baldur’s Gate 3 will include memorable characters and player choices that will carry weight.
Along with the announcement, the studio also released a rather gruesome cinematic teaser trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3 to get us hyped for the game’s release.
No release date has been announced but, seeing as the game is set to release on Gooogle’s Stadia streaming platform, it could mean that it might launch along with the service which is set to go live in a limited capacity in November 2019.
The game will also be available on the PC when it launches.
