Ubisoft and James Cameron has teamed up once again and announced that Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, the team behind The Division, is currently working on a new cutting edge Avatar game.
The new Avatar game will be running on the developer’s Snowdrop engine and is being described by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment as “cutting edge”. Along with the announcement, the team released a video in which they discuss their vision for the game. Massive is working alongside Fox Interactive and James Cameron’s studio Lightstorm Entertainment, which will be headed to both PC and consoles.
It is important to note that the footage that is shown is from the 2009 Avatar film and not from the game.
“With the power of Massive’s Snowdrop game engine and the team’s passion and obsessive focus on detail, we know they’re the right group to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life,” Cameron said in a video accompanying the announcement.
This will not be the first game based in the Avatar universe. Ubisoft and Cameron have worked together previously on Avatar: The Game released in 2009.
Production on the new Avatar films is also said to begin later this year.
