Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, remember it? You should; it’s easily one of the better games in the series. Well, the next chapter in the story of Alexios (or Kassandra) is at hand. Technically it’s been at hand since December 4th, but I was catching up on my backlog this past December – sorry, not sorry.
Legacy of the First Blade is a three-part episodic story, the first being Hunted; the second and third chapters—Shadow Heritage and Bloodline—are due early this year. Hunted tells the short but interesting tale of the first assassin to wield the series’ hidden blade—Darius–used to slay King Xerxes of all people.
Hunted sees your character—Alexios in my case—travel to Macedonia. During your stay, in-between your daily routine of face stabbings and parkour, you stumble across the Persian assassin, Darius. As you might expect, you’re forced into an uneasy alliance as you, Darius and Darius’ daughter Neema (or son Natakas) flee a secretive Persian order bent on nefarious doings.
…it’s a somewhat introspective story…
During the course of Hunted, you discover a great many things about the secretive Darius, his motivations and just what the heck the assassin brotherhood is meant to be about – it’s a somewhat introspective story.
To help you accomplish your quest, a new ability and a higher level cap are made available. Otherwise, you can expect a lot of what made Assassin’s Creed Odyssey so enjoyable to play in the first place – solid storytelling, interesting characters, lots of loot, fulfilling exploration, beautiful environments and, well, you get the rest.
It’s worth mentioning that a lot of Hunted is reminiscent of the cult hunting you do in the original game, which is a good thing. It’s a lot of fun, often involving detective work and plenty of challenging combat and stealthy bits.
The only real issue is the relatively short 5 to 6 hours it will take to complete Legacy of the First Blade: Hunted. That said, there’s more to look forward to in the near future. Until then, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy the story Hunted has to tell. So until Shadow Heritage, happy hunting.
