All those who said that Aquaman was a silly comic book character are probably eating their words right now. Zack Snyder and Jason Momoa’s vision for the character has transformed the fishy hero into something much more special. And, as the new images from Entertainment Weekly shows, James Wan has done an amazing job of bringing Atlanteans to life.
“The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film,” director James Wan says. “This is a whole new underwater world nobody has seen before in live action.”
Wan also went on to confirm that Patrick Wilson’s King Orm/Orm the Ocean Master is the main villain of the film and not Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, although he does make an appearance too.
Warner Bros. executives and producers have already shared their thoughts about the film. They’re overwhelmingly positive, with many of them praising Wan’s vision.
“[The film has] got the great action you expect, it’s got a lot of great humour, it works on so many levels,” continued Aquaman producer Peter Safran. “It’s a testament to James’ unique vision. I think it’s an extraordinary step in DC Universe that sets it on the right path.”
