The Manga-Inspired Eyes Are A Little Less Creepy In New Alita: Battle Angel Trailer

It’s hard to tell but it almost looks like the latest trailer makes a few tweaks to the giant-eyed Rosa Salazar in Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel. It’s been 8 months since the last trailer dropped, which caused quite a stir on the net for its strange depiction of the film’s lead cyborg.

Fox decided not to drop the trailer during San Diego Comic-Con (possibly fearing more backlash) and instead opted to release it during a Q&A with producer James Cameron, director Robert Rodriguez and producer Jon Landau.

The new trailer looks mighty impressive and includes a cast of well-known actors like Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson. However, despite its $200 million budget, there doesn’t seem to be much hype for Alita: Battle Angel yet. Audiences just don’t seem that interested. Whatever the reasons may be, the film is in desperate need of a better marketing strategy.

Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.

Alita: Battle Angel releases December 21.
