After many teases and some good old speculation regarding a possible new Alien game, Alien: Blackout has finally been announced. Unfortunately, it might not be what fans were expecting.
It turns out that Alien: Blackout is a mobile game based on the popular horror/sci-fi franchise that will release on Android and iOS devices. The game is being developed by FoxNet Games, D3 Go! and Rival Games and put players in the boots of Amanda Ripley, who finds herself aboard a Weyland-Yutani space station which, of course, has an alien lurking in its corridors.
Although the fact that the game is a mobile game might disappoint some fans, the good news is that it is a survival horror game. Players will be forced to make some gruelling choices as they try and guide the station’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks. Amanda is only able to guide these crew members using the station’s emergency systems, all the while having to deal with not only the Xenomorphs but also the station’s limited power supply.
Blackout has been described by the developer as “an immersive and captivating Alien experience, perfectly designed for mobile gaming”
It would seem that every decision players make could result in various conclusions, just how impactful these conclusions will be is yet to be revealed.
Fans of the franchise might have been hoping for a new console game and, judging by the reaction to the recently revealed mobile Diablo game, we expect some fans to be thoroughly upset by this announcement. Granted, the premise does sound interesting and the fact that it is a survival horror game does give us some hope Alien: Blackout could turn out to be a good mobile game.
A release date for the game has not yet been announced.
