Video-game conglomerate Activision Blizzard has announced that they will be forming a new division that would be focusing on consumer related products.
The new Activision Blizzard consumer division will be headed by president and CEO Tim Kilpin, who previously worked for Disney and Mattel. This means that we will probably be seeing more products (especially toys) based on the company’s video game franchises being released in the future.
Lately, the company has been focused on setting up new revenue streams, including a film studio and an e-sports division. Although there are already consumer products based on their properties out there, for which they collect royalties, it makes sense that they would set up a division to manage these themselves. Kilpin will use his experience to help grow and manage the new division:
“The goal is to accelerate what we’re doing already. The opportunity exists to take it to another level and connect the dots across a lot of different brands – to leverage the power of the portfolio.”
This seems like a smart move and one that will most likely help bolster the companies revenue. We can’t wait to see more products based on Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Destiny, and Diablo.
