Jim Carrey’s ’90s cult classic comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective might be getting a reboot of sorts. According to David Robinson, the president of Morgan Creek, the studio who owns the rights to the franchise, it could be a movie or a TV revival. Alrighty Then!
Robinson told Deadline:
“We wanted to do a mainstream theatrical production relaunch. Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.”
In a world plagued with remakes, it’s not really surprising that the classic is getting the reboot treatment. If the character does return to the big screen, however, it probably won’t be with Jim Carrey. We can’t imagine him channelling Ace Ventura at 55 years of age. That said, he has surprised us before.
Morgan Creek productions are also responsible for the TV reboot of The Exorcist, which turned out to be quite successful.
