When God of War released last year it was hailed as a masterpiece by many. Its tight action-packed gameplay, coupled with an emotional narrative, won the hearts of both fans and critics. Creative director Cory Barlog recently revealed why the game wouldn’t be receiving any DLC any time soon.
During an interview with Kinda Funny regarding possible DLC for God of War, Barlog commented on how his original idea for DLC was just “too ambitious”, comparing it to Uncharted: Lost Legacy in terms of scale and that it would need to have been a whole standalone title.
“I had a really fun idea for a DLC that I only regret because I would love to have done that, but it was too ambitious.”
Of course, this meant that his idea for DLC had to be shelved.
While Barlog didn’t expand on what exactly his original plans for the DLC were, he did post some tongue-in-cheek comments on Twitter about other scrapped ideas, including one with monkeys and robots in space, another where Atreus finds himself turned into a car with Vin Diesel narrating Kratos’ quest to break the spell and, our personal favourite, one which would be a mash-up of Hell’s Kitchen and the Battle Royale movie starring Chef Gordon Ramsay as Odin.
It took place in space.
Spaaaaaaaaaaaace.
And there were robots.
And a monkey.
They ate astronaut sandwich’s.
In space.
Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace.
?…Yup. Too ambitious.

Truth.
The morning after the first game Atreus wakes up to find he has been turned into a car – a VW Rabbit convertible.
Only way Kratos, Freya + Mimir can save him is 2 live their life a quarter mile at a time and race to break the spell.
Vin Diesel narrates.
Explosions.?

It’s True.
The idea was that Ragnarok was not actually a battle but a Norse mashup of Hell’s Kitchen the Battle Royale movie w/ Gordon Ramsay as Odin.
Kratos, boy, Freya, Brok, Sindri and Mimir all have fight + prepare delicious meals while being yelled at. Then someone dies.✊

These wacky ideas have made us truly curious about what exactly Barlog’s original plans were. Maybe one day we’ll find out. Hopefully, we will be seeing some sort of God of War DLC in the near future.
