There two things I have to admit before I get into the awesomeness that was the Rage Expo. The first thing is that I am NOT that big of a gamer. The second thing is that this was my first time attending the RAGE EXPO, which was an event that always caught my attention yet for some odd reason I never attended. This year, however, I finally made the trek to the biggest gaming and technology expo in South Africa, and it was a whole lot of fun!
The only reason I’m not a gamer is because if I were I wouldn’t be a writer. Games are my guilty addiction, so I tend to avoid them in order to have a functioning life. This weekend, however, I fully plunged into the abyss of my addiction as I spoilt myself with everything that was on show at the Coca Cola Dome.
The Expo hosted a wide variety of different things for you to do and see, but the truth is that many just show up to find out what the future holds for some of their favorite games and what can they expect in future.
For avid gamers that attended the expo, they were spoilt rotten as they got to see, and in some cases even play, new upcoming games on the PS4 and X-Box One. Two games that grabbed my attention at the expo was Assassins Creed: Black Flag and Call of Duty: Ghost.
Assassins Creed: Black Flag looks to be an insanely awesome game, as all the Assassins Creed games are. The Developers once again have managed to out do themselves with the latest installment. The game allows users to roam around the entire islands as nothing is off limits. In terms of graphics, the game certainly is benefiting from the PS4 and there is a lot more detail in the game. It is insanely awesome, as is expected from the franchise.
I was quite the fan of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and I was unaware of the latest development by Infinity ward. When I came across Call of Duty: Ghost I was pleasantly surprised! If you a fan of the CoD series then you will love the next installment, as Ghost builds on everything that makes the last games great. However, this latest installment is a jump into insanity, as this game amps everything up. Unlike the rest of the Call of Duty games that take place in a pseudo reality that resembles the world we live in to some extent, this new game is nothing at all likes the world we live in. The game takes place in a near future following an attack from space via kinetic bombardment that changed the global balance of powers in the world. There was a big enough crowd when CoD: Ghost presentation started but when the gameplay started up on the screen, passers by all stopped in their tracks, while others stopped eating, drinking, breathing all together, to take in the insanity of what the latest installment will provide its users. The game looks to be a cinematic experience as it’s fused into the conventionalities of a game, making it quite extraordinary.
One game I was really looking forward to seeing but never got the chance to was Watch Dogs, which was all hidden away in its own little private viewing room where many fans waited for an hour or two to catch a glimpse of its sheer magnificence. Unfortunately for me, I just did not have the patience to wait that long.
As an avid anime fan, I was glad to see that anime had quite the solid presence at the expo. Many cos-players showed to the event, but the majority were Anime Characters. There were many different anime products you could purchase at the expo, everything from mouse pads, to umbrellas, key rings and even cards, and yet they didn’t have any manga and Anime DVD’s. Disappointing.
Telkom managed to draw in the crowds with their competitions and giveaways, while also showing off LTE, that will reach super speeds on the Internet and will be sold at SUPER INFLATED prices.
There were many different things to see and do at the expo, it was certainly a fun weekend and probably an event that you wouldn’t want to miss in future. So mark your calendars for rAge 2014, because when it comes around you will be a fool to miss it!
