Microsoft has announced that Xbox live will now support cross-network play, what this means is that players on Xbox would now be able to play online with players on PS4 who own the same game.

In a statement on Xbox wire, [email protected] director Chris Charla announced the new move. Not all games will necessarily make use of cross-network play as it was made clear that it would be up to the game developers to support the feature. Xbox Live players will also still have the ability to only play with those on Xbox Live.

While Rocket League would support Xbox-PC crossplay, Charla said that there was an open invitation for other networks to take part as well. No other games that make use of cross-network play have been announced yet.
This is an exciting move from Microsoft, hopefully, Sony will accept the open invitation.
