WHAT ARE THE THREE WORDS YOU MOST WANT TO HEAR THIS VALENTINE’S DAY? HOW ABOUT… “YIPPEE KI YAY”!
See competition details below
Ster-Kinekor, your favourite cinema chain, is pulling out all the stops to ensure Valentine’s Day 2013 will be one you’ll never forget. In addition to the sparkling movie titles currently screening in our state-of-the-art cinemas, we’re pre-releasing three made-for-Valentine’s Day films for a special screening on Thursday, 14 February.
This is a once-off offer, so we suggest you book early. And, you have the bonus of a choice of three great titles: the latest offering in the Bruce Willis Die Hard series, A Good Day to Die Hard, the hilarious local love story, Fanie Fourie’s Lobola, or (specially for Twilight fans) the beautiful Beautiful Creatures love story.
But wait, there’s more! If you call Ticketline from Monday, 04 February to book your tickets for one of these three great titles, you could also stand the chance of winning two FREE movie tickets to attend a special Valentine’s Day pre-screening of Warm Bodies, touted as a “mesmerising” retelling of a contemporary, romantic tale. The Warm Bodies offer is valid from 04 February, only via Ticketline, for screenings at Ster-Kinekor Sandton (Johannesburg), Gateway (Durban) and Tyger Valley (Cape Town). The free tickets are on a first come, first served basis – so get your dialing finger working.
Then, share your perfect Warm Bodies Valentine’s Day date story with us via Ster-Kinekor’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sterkinekortheatres, and you could also be in line to win one of the many fabulous Warm Bodies hampers up for grabs.
A Good Day to Die Hard promises you’ll get to hear those three words you’ve been longing to hear on Valentine’s Day – “Yippee ki yay” – as Willis reprises his famous role as your everyman-cop-on-the-street, John McClane. This time, he travels to Russia to help spring his estranged son, Jack (Jai Courtney), out of prison, but gets caught up in the crossfire of a terrorist plot. A Good Day to Die Hard promises you all the thrilling action scenes, and more, that the Die Hard series is famous for. Get your hearts pumping inside the cinema… and you’ll be primed for some fast-moving action afterwards.
How about making an evening of it with the one you love – dinner and a movie? They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and the way to a woman’s is through her funny bone. If that’s your scene, then the locally-produced Fanie Fourie’s Lobola is your ideal choice.
It stars Eduan van Jaarsveld in the title role as a typical Afrikaans guy who falls in love with Dinky Magubane (Zethu Dlomo), a typical Zulu girl. It’s a movie about love conquering all (things South African) as the couple seek to keep their love alive while navigating their hilarious way through the complicated minefields of cultural tradition, family bonds, sibling rivalries, outsider jealousies and, of course, lobola.
Beautiful Creatures is all angst, love, hope and dreams wrapped up in a delicious coating of romance and the struggle for love amidst the competing powers of light and darkness. And no, it’s not just a ‘chick-flick’.
Alden Ehrenreich stars as Ethan Wate, a small-town guy longing to escape the shortcomings of his environment, who falls for newcomer-in-town Lena Duchannes (the stunning Alice Englert). This is an all-star cast, including Jeremy Irons (who is fabulous in the role of Lena’s uncle, Macon Ravenwood) and Emma Thompson, who plays a dual role as a normal aunt and a spooky-normal other-creature.
The young couple find themselves fighting for their love as the forces of light and dark battle it out for the young girl’s soul. She possesses supernatural powers and her destiny will be decided on her 16th birthday, when she must undergo ‘The Claiming’, a process that will decide her fate forever: light or dark.
Ster-Kinekor’s bonus, competition movie Warm Bodies, is a very different kind of zombie love movie. For Valentine’s Day, you ask? You’ll be surprised – and delighted. This is less about zombies and more about the important process of discovering who you really are and how you really love.
And, if it has zombies, you can be sure it’s full of laughs and plenty of action too. It features Nicholas Hoult as the zombie, R, who falls in love with a still-human woman in a ‘post-apocazombie’ world. It’s a unique rendering, described by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer as “…a mesmerising evolution of a classic, contemporary myth”.
Once again, Ster-Kinekor has come up with the perfect titles to ensure that this year’s Valentine’s Day is one to remember. The perfect Valentine’s Day is, after all, as much a guy thing as it is a girl thing: it is all about both the giving and the receiving.
