Many consider Team ICO’s Shadow of the Colossus a masterpiece of gaming due to its great atmosphere and engaging battles. Now the team of No Matter Studios is trying to capture that same atmosphere and intense battles with its upcoming game titled, Prey for the Gods.
A successfully crowdfunded project, Prey for the Gods doesn’t want to be considered a mere clone of the game that inspired it but, No Matter Studios rather wants to build their own unique game using the core mechanics from Shadow of the Colossus. Brian Parnell reiterated this on the PlayStation Blog:
“Our goal isn’t to make a sequel or make a carbon copy of Shadow of the Colossus. We want to push ourselves to create a game that we want to play that exemplifies the core mechanics, and atmosphere that one sees — and if we do it right inspire others to do the same.”
Not only does the concept seem promising, but from what is shown in the trailer the game seems to have some of the same awe-inspiring moments that Shadow of the Colossus had. I loved Shadow of the Colossus and truly hope that Prey for the Gods can successfully honor its legacy while still being its own unique experience.
The game is currently set for release sometime in December 2017.
