After a really long wait, the first teaser trailer for Shane Black’s The Predator, which Fox hopes to kick-start a new franchise, is finally here. As you can see from the first trailer, while the film might be a reboot, it won’t be abandoning the canon of the previous Predator films.
The Predator has long been considered one of the most iconic aliens in cinema history, alongside Ridley Scott’s xenomorph. While we don’t see much of the creature here, we do get a sense of real danger and a few glimpses. What’s also cool is that The Predator seems to take the franchise out of the familiar jungle setting to the small-town streets of suburbia.
While there were rumours that the film would be a horror/sci/comedy, there doesn’t seem to be much humour here.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The new film has an impressive cast that includes Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski.
The Predator arrives in theatres on September 14, 2018.
