The last thing you’ll probably associate with Tom Cruise is the Joker. However, a Twitter conversation between All-Star Batman writer Scott Snyder and the writer of Telltale’s Batman have suggested that he would be a great choice to play the character onscreen. Not only that, but Eric Stirpe has revealed that the game’s Joker character was inspired by Cruise.
That was my exact inspiration when writing the first scenes with the Joker in Telltale's Batman!

Recent rumours suggest that Leonardo DiCaprio and Joaquin Phoenix are in the running to play the iconic character in Martin Scorsese’s Joker origin film. While Cruise would certainly be an interesting choice, who certainly has the acting chops, you’d have to wonder how fans would receive the Mission Impossible star as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Ironically, Tom Cruise was the initial choice to play Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but turned down the role which eventually went to Robert Downey Jr. When asked about why he hasn’t acted in a comic book movie, Cruise commented:
Look, I really enjoy those films a lot. I enjoy them. But I make the Missions and Reacher. Just different kind of films.
With casting for the announced Joker origin film still uncertain, anything is possible. Perhaps we’ll see Mr J jumping on a couch with Oprah shortly.
