In 1989, Tim Burton had great success with his first instalment of Batman, played by Michael Keaton and with Jack Nicholson as the Joker. In 1998, the director confirmed that he would start work on a reboot of the Superman franchise, featuring Nicholas Cage as Clark Kent/Kal-El interestingly enough. The movie would be titled Superman Lives, and included a few of the more interesting looking costumes, props, and the likes than you’re likely to find for a Superman movie. There’s almost no doubting that, based on what we’ve seen and heard, the movie would have failed, both as a movie itself, and almost certainly at the Box Office (where it really matters). After the character roles were cast, sets and props built, producers and the likes confirmed, why did the movie fall apart in the end?
A Kickstarter campaign has recently popped up in which Jon Schnepp seeks to find the answers to all questions related to the movie in an attempt at a documentary. He is also interested in providing interviews with effects specialists, screenplay writer Kevin Smith, stars Nicholas Cage and Sandra Bullock, and possibly Tim Burton himself. The documentary would be called “The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?”
