Tim Burton and Michael Keaton Return for Beetlejuice Sequel

It’s been in the pipeline for a long time, but Tim Burton and Michael Keaton may be ready to return to the “Beetlejuice” franchise. And the crowd said? Hooray!

The Wrap and Schmoes Know are reporting that he is currently in negotiations to direct Beetlejuice 2, a direct sequel to the classic film. The 1988 original was a horror-comedy was about a ghoul who hired by a deceased couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) to rid their home of its new human inhabitants. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter writer Seth Grahame-Smith was tasked with creating a screenplay, but Burton said his involvement was based on the quality of the script. Now it appears that script has gotten his thumbs up.

“When Warner Bros. came to us about it, we said the only way we’d do it if we got Tim’s blessing and involvement, and we got that, and the star of the movie has to be Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, and it’s a true continuation 26 years later,” Grahame-Smith said. “Not just throwing him in as a cameo going, ‘Hey, it’s me. I endorse this movie.’ We’re not there yet because we don’t have a film to present to him.”
