It’s difficult to think of flash memory without included the likes of SanDisk. With a range of flash memory devices, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for within the SanDisk Catalogue. The SanDisk Ultra Backup is a simple flash drive, but also includes a dedicated Backup button for those who continually require backup functionality, and always on the move.

From the offset you will clearly notice that this flash drive is more than just that. The dedicated backup button is as easy to use as it is to spot. You will notice that you’re unable to click the button when the USB slider is slid back into storage position, and only when slid out will the button become functional. The device itself weighs just 13g and measures roughly 7 centimetres in length.

If there’s any negative about this device it will be its physical size. Pitted against the other SanDisk devices like the Cruzer Blade and Mini, the Ultra Backup is quite bulky, and I’m not entirely taken by the idea that its size is a direct result of the added button. In terms of its build, however, it is quite sturdy for with a slide-out feature. The one other aspect I didn’t enjoy is that I had to download the Backup Manager before making use of the Backup button, something I thought would be pre-installed on the device from the start. For those interested, you can download the software here.

If you’re not interested in the backup feature of this device, then I suggest you browse through the other SanDisk devices. If secure backup is what you require, and need to do so with the simplest of ease, then this device should definitely feature on your next shopping list. The SanDisk Ultra Backup flash drive is available in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes, with pricing starting at around R200 for the 8GB.
