Although the Olympics are long gone, there are still a few reminders in the tech world with Olympic branding for official partner companies. Acer’s P238HL LED Monitor is one such device. The 23” display measures 551x361x17.5mm (very thin), and without the usual stand, is smaller than most monitors with the same display size.
As with most (if not all) LED displays, the Acer P238HL has full 1080p HD, 1920x1080px, resolution. Add to that a contrast ratio of 100m:1, 5ms response time and the viewing angles of 170° horizontal and 160° vertical, makes viewing a pleasure. Although these specs might seem standard across a number of displays these days, the end product is very good. In addition to these specs, the monitor also includes the Acer Adaptive Contrast Management interface. This means that the monitor analyses each scene, adjusts images frame by frame, enhances gradation and optimises the contrast. This monitor falls under the Acer EcoDisplay category, with its mercury-free LED lighting, recyclable packing materials, and compliance with RoHS, and consumes 68% less power.
In terms of styling, the monitor comes fitted with an adjustable kickstand giving you a 170° tilting angle. The monitor also has a piano-black front face, and a dark grey rear. This special-edition P238HL also has the official Olympic branding on the front left.
The biggest disappointment with this LED Monitor lies in its price. At R3000, the Acer P238HL is one of the more expensive 23” displays on the market. The Acer P238HL is well built, beautifully styled, and good resolution and screen rate, making watching movies and playing games visually appealing. If it wasn’t for the price, this would be really great choice.
