Disney has revealed the latest creatures to join the ever expanding Star Wars family. Meet the bug-eyed, globs of fur called the Porgs.

These Porgs were first spotted in the behind the scenes promo at this years D23. Star Wars have always had a, shall we say, interesting history when it comes to cute characters in their films. While most will agree that R2-D2 and BB-8 were worthy additions to the Star Wars universe (which includes Ewoks and the dreaded Jar-Jar Binks), opinions vary drastically.

So where do these balls of eyes and fur come from? Well, according to Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo these creatures are native to Ahch-To and are mostly found along the cliffs of the island where Luke and Rey will be training. Seeing as these creatures are also able to fly, they tend to build their nests high on the cliffside. Hidalgo also confirmed that both CGI and puppets will be used to bring the Porgs to life.

While these creatures are definitely cute (just look at those soulful eyes), there is no doubt that they will help Disney push up their toy revenue when stuffed Porgs eventually hit the toy store shelves. It’s probably a safe bet that we will be seeing these guys faces adorning all kinds of merchandise when the film releases.

What do you think? Will these creatures make a worthy addition to the Star Wars universe or is this Jar-Jar Binks all over again?
