Disney has announced Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, an original series of 2-3 minute animated shorts developed by Lucasfilm about Star Wars heroines Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren, Princess Leia and Ahsoka Tano.
Launching in July, Star Wars Forces of Destiny will be available on Disney YouTube and the Disney Channel. The series will be canon and features the voice talents of the live-action counterparts, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, the narrator.
“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity. We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm.
