Could Square Enix's The Avengers Project Actually Be A Reboot Of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance?

We all know by now that Square Enix is working on a new Marvel game codenamed The Avengers Project. Although we know little more beyond this, a new rumour seems to indicate that this could actually be a reboot of a familiar and well-loved Marvel game franchise.

Could Square Enix's The Avengers Project Actually Be A Reboot Of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance?

If new rumours are to be believed, Square Enix’s The Avengers Project could actually be a reboot of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance franchise. Square Enix’s Marvel project was revealed back in 2017 and since then there has been tons of speculation on what it could actually be.

According to IGN Germany, a rumour on 4chan seems to indicate that The Avengers project could, in fact, be a reboot in the same vein that the new God of War game was a sort of a reboot.

The post goes on to mention that the game will take place from the perspective of multiple Avengers and will be set after a cataclysmic event (think Civil War). Although the narrative will take place from the perspective of multiple Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man and Scarlet Witch will be the main heroes in the game.

The post further mentions that gameplay will be in a similar style to the Uncharted and Infamous series, meaning a third-person action game. If this is true it’s a big departure from the original games that played more like a traditional top/isometric view RPG.

There are also rumours that the game will take place in the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man game. Could this be the beginning of a Marvel Shared Gaming Universe? We certainly hope so.

As with all rumours, this is to be taken with a very small pinch of salt as there is no confirmation from any of the parties involved in the project.

What would you think if the Ultimate Alliance franchise made a return? Does the possibility of a shared Marvel Gaming Universe get you excited?
