Before the Spider-Man reboot and the reboot before that, the world had to make due with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Even before shooting began, Raimi filmed a few screen tests of Maguire, one of which was influenced by Bruce Lee.
Hate it or love it, it’s hard to deny the influence of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man on the superhero world today. Ask anyone about their favourite comic book films and Spider-Man 2 is bound to crop up on a few lists. That said, not everyone is convinced of Tobey Maguire’s abilities or his portrayal of the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider. It seems the studios weren’t buying it either, so Raimi did different screen tests with Maguire to convince the execs. One of them was an ode to Bruce Lee.
The clip was actually released way back in 2008 and features Maguire doing all sorts of strange kung fu.
