It’s a sad sad sad day for many, especially us here at Fortress of Solitude, who were looking forward to the release of Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition. Unfortunately, Times Media Films have confirmed that South Africa won’t be getting the Ultimate Cut of the film.

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]ven if you didn’t like the theatrical version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, chances are that you’re a little interested in seeing the extra 30 minutes of footage offered on the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition. Like the original release, Warner Bros. is going all out on releasing trailers. Sadly, you won’t have the privilege of owning it in South Africa.

A little while back, we noticed that Takealot didn’t stock the Ultimate Cut and that the cover images didn’t have Ultimate Cut printed on them. Now we have confirmation that we definitely won’t be getting the R-rated cut come release day.

Instead, we’ll be getting this:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be available on DVD Pack for R149.99-R159.99 RRP, Blu-ray 2D for R199.99 RRP, Blu-ray 3D for R299.99, Batman v Superman / Man of Steel Box sets on DVD or Blu-ray and Batman v Superman Steel books (Box sets and steel books available at selected DVD stores).

And only the theatrical release with the 151 minutes running time.

There is no mention of the extras on the disks themselves, but we can only imagine that we’re not getting all of those either. There is also no mention of a 4k Blu-ray version, which is also disheartening.

Here’s a lineup of bonus features that was announced internationally on the Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition:

  • Uniting the World’s Finest
  • Gods and Men: A Meeting of Giants
  • The Warrior, the Myth, the Wonder
  • Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile
  • Analyzing a New Legacy of Design: Superman
  • Analyzing a New Legacy of Design: Batman
  • Analyzing A New Legacy of Design: The Batcave
  • The Might And The Power of a Punch
  • The Empire of Luthor
  • Save The Bats

The trailer for the Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition:

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition will arrive internationally on the 19th July and features an extended R-rated cut of the film (30 mins of extra footage). Jena Malone’s scenes have also been put back into the movie. The home release also features a newly remastered Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

I’m almost certain there is enough of us out there to make this happen. So we need your help to convince the powers that be to release the Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition locally, so we can catch up to the rest of the world and experience it the way we should – R-rated with 30 mins extra footage.

So what do you need to do? Simply tell us below, firstly whether or not you would like to see/buy it and why. Hopefully, we can move mountains and convince the kind folks to give us a chance to see one of the year’s biggest blockbusters without having to resort to piracy. Let us know in the comments if you want to see the Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition.

Ah gees man! I really enjoyed the movie, Batman is my hero in life and the relationship between Supes and Bats is one of the most intriguing in all of comic history. Times Media needs to bring it here, there is not even a reason given to not release it here. I simply won’t purchase it from South African retailers, they won’t get my money, I’ll just import it from USA. I have the means to watch Region A blu-ray films. So if they want to be useless, they don’t need my money to continue being useless

I was going to buy the ultimate edition and the thought didn’t even cross my mind that it wouldn’t be an option locally. I just assumed that since we don’t live in the stone ages in South Africa that we would be granted the same options as everywhere else in the world. Because I don’t want the theatrical version. I want the ultimate edition and I’m willing to pay for it. If it’s not available locally then a pirated version of the right version makes more sense than paying for the wrong version.

Until yesterday it was available on Takealot as a prre-order with a release date of 22 July. As of tonight, the Ultimate Edition product page has been removed and is no longer available as a pre-order on Takealot nor does it have a release date???

There is a follow up article. Seems all the copies are sold out in South Africa. You’re best bet was Takealot. Now it’s only available here and there at a handful of Musicas around the country. All the best!
