With Xbox giving Sony an open invitation for cross-network play, all eyes were on Sony to see if they would accept it.

Well, Sony has finally responded although the answer turned out to be a bit vague and fell short of a definitive yes or no.
Responding to a question from Gamespot regarding cross-network play a Sony representative responded: “PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002. We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross-platform play.”

Although Sony’s answer is encouraging they did neglect to mention Xbox by name or even state specifically yes or no. They did, however, add that there was an opportunity for cross-network play, even though Sony seems to be avoiding the issue a bit at this time.
