Rumours regarding a sequel to Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor have been doing the rounds for quite some time. Now, a listing on Target’s website has revealed the sequel is real and in development.
The listing reveals that the sequel to Shadow of Mordor is called Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and contains an image of the box art and a very brief description.
“Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses, and dominate Mordor from within,” it reads. “Experience how the award-winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth.”
The listing also confirms that the game will be heading to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There is a release date mentioned, 22nd of August, but this could just be a temporary placeholder until the official release date is announced.
The original Shadow of Mordor followed the protagonist Talion as he sought vengeance against those that killed his loved ones. The game’s Nemesis system allowed A.I characters to remember their encounters with Talion, and act accordingly.
I enjoyed the first game immensely. Here’s hoping Middle-Earth: Shadow of War turns out just as good.
