Ryan Reynolds Will Star in 2016’s Deadpool

Written by

‘It’s chimichanga time!’ Ryan Reynolds announced on Twitter, revealing that Fox is closing a deal for a feature on Deadpool, the character he originated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Earlier this year test footage of the anti-superhero mercenary leaked online, showcasing the possibilities for a spin-off film. Fans around the world seemed more than pleased with the results, with the video being shared across social media platforms. Now Deadline has announced that his casting is a go with 20th Century Fox Films.

The film is being directed by Tim Miller, who has been developing the idea for years now. The story will follow Wade Wilson, a smart-mouthed mercenary with terminal cancer who undergoes military experiments in an attempt to replicate Wolverine’s mutant healing factor. Nicknamed “The Merc with a Mouth”, Deadpool has gone on to be one of Marvel’s most popular characters lately. Let’s just hope it isn’t anything like the awful Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds sold the “Merc with a Mouth” idea in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I think they made a good choice.
