Oz-The Great and Powerful Unused Concept Art

Sam Raimi’s version of The Wizard of Oz, Oz: The Great and Powerful, was released earlier this year with mixed public reaction and reviews. The film featured a number of CGI characters, although there were some noticeable omissions. Before a company was selected to do the artwork for the film, a pitch was made to the studio. Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. was one of those companies who submitted concept artwork, although they didn’t make the cut. Here’s a look at some of their concept designs for the film. We can only hope to look forward to quite a few more recognizable characters to come in the next set of films.

“We were brought on to design characters for Sam Raimi’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL and had a big appetite for a combination of prosthetics, animatronics, and digital-enhanced characters. Ours was a different direction than production was headed (it’s easy for us to have a big appetite when we’re not paying the bills). Ultimately, the job went to our friends at KNB.”
