Verdict: 2.5 / 5
Scotsman, Calvin Harris’ star has been rising steadily and he solidified his status (for now) with his collaboration with Rihanna on ‘We Found Love’. Don’t forget he was also a collaborator with Dizzee Rascal on the smash, ‘Dance Wiv Me’. ‘18 Months’ consists mainly of collaborations-as is the wont of electronic dance creators. In this regard the album sounds like a compilation instead of a coherent body of work.
Despite the loose feel of these tracks they are entertaining and showcase Harris’ keen ear for infectious grooves and beats. Surprisingly, one of the best tracks is ‘School’ and it’s an instrumental by Harris that is reminiscent of 80s soul and disco. You can’t apply much analysis to these tracks but if you’re a fan of EDM then this album will satisfy. So while the music is fresh and current it’s nonetheless disposable.
