Verdict: 3 / 5
Australian rockers, AC/DC return with their second live album and first in twenty years.
Rock acts find fertile soil in South America and AC/DC always receive a rousing welcome when they go there. The band and their music is tailor made for a gargantuan stadium like Riverplate in Argentina and it is fitting to release a live album recorded at such an electrifying arena. The double disc contains most of the bands big hits and popular songs like ‘Back in Black’, ‘Hells Bells’ and ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’. Given the band’s simple rock and roll musical formula, songs on the album stay close to the album version with only a few tracks being extended or altered. The songs also sound surprisingly close to their recorded versions due to the bands simple recording style with only the slightly more raw tones of the performance distinguishing the live from the recorded versions.
It would have made for more intriguing listening if the band played around a bit with the arrangements of some of the more popular tracks but then that won’t be AC/DC would it. So what you do have is standard but well performed tracks from the kings of straight up rock and roll.
