This prologue to the main Avenger vs X-Men story features Magneto’s daughter, Scarlet Witch and the fall out that ensues after her possessed self wiped out most of the mutant population. The other half follows Hope, the mutant messiah who is supposed to restore the mutant race. The narrative follows their separate paths with neither characters’ stories relating, for now.

The story is well written featuring a good mix of action and drama. The opening scene with Wanda and M.O.D.O.K. is a good primer and serves to imprint in the reader just how devastating Wanda’s betrayal was. Hope’s story shows how difficult it is for the young hero to adjust to her new role as mutant messiah. She can’t stand the sheltered state she is forced to live in and Cyclops’ overbearing attitude. She takes matters into her own hands and shows why she is the mutants only ‘hope’.
Cho is very good at directing the reader’s eye and highlighting the best possible angle for a frame be it for action or dialogue moments. The colour and tone may be a bit too bright and digitally manipulated but the art is great all-round.
