A few days ago Land Rover unveiled its new Range Rover Velar to the world. Now you can watch a 15-minute launch documentary, The Crafting of Simplicity, narrated by British actor Damian Lewis.
The documentary tells the story of the creative process for the Velar, a mid-sized SUV, shaped by the concept of ‘reductionism.’ The documentary, directed by award-winning documentary-maker, Ben Lawrie, also touches on some of the more technical engineering challenges that had to be overcome in reducing complexity to develop a pure design.
The film features a list of Land Rover personnel who had a hand in the creation process, including designers, coders, technicians and clay modellers, all of whom were responsible for the precision craftsmanship, innovation and attention to detail involved in creating and developing the Velar.
The Velar fills the gap in the market between other Land Rover models, the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. A 45-minute version of the documentary will be released later this year, on the creation of the vehicle, made by the same production team and exploring the themes of design and engineering in greater depth.
