Philips Challenge Grooming Day

For many men, grooming is a word seldom used and the mere mention of it sends shivers down their spines. Beards are in. The hobo look is on the rise. Men often spend more time catching up on sports in the morning as opposed to working on their looks for work. It’s not often then, that a specific day is dedicated to observing men’s grooming, but on 19th August 2016 the men of the world will join forces for Men’s Grooming Day. Having started out in the US by American Crew to pay attention to men’s appearance, the campaign has since gone global. In this regard, Philips has launched a campaign of their own, a 21-day challenge (The Philips Challenge) to men to change their habits when it comes to shaving and grooming.

Philips Grooming Philips Challenge

The challenge here is to use one of Philips‘ many electric shavers over a period of 21 days, and while noticing the difference in your beard and skin, also change the way you use your shaver. Fortress of Solitude has partnered with Philips to meet the challenge, and would like to take one of our male readers on the same journey.

Philips Series 7000 Shaver-02

The 21-day challenge will start on the 29th July 2016 as a build up to Men’s Grooming Day. All you have to do is comment below with any experience you had using your preferred shaving tool. We’ll be (randomly) selecting one reader from the comments below. Philips will provide the winner with a shaver from their range to meet their requirements. So whether you have sensitive skin, tough beard, ingrown facial hair, or simply just hate shaving on a daily basis, Philips has a shaver suited to your needs.

Check out our review of the Philips Series 7000 Shaver here.

The winner will be expected to post social media updates during the three weeks of the Philips Challenge, a minimum of one per week, as well as one video blog. Be as creative as you wish, just keep it clean.

  1. Uwes Lamprecht

I have quite a big beard, and I shaved my head this morning…I turned from a gentle giant into a roaring pirate in a matter of minutes. Now everyone is afraid of me :/

  2. Vincent Oliver

As a police sergeant, I have be very neat and groomed in my appearance and uniform. But to shave daily eish I hope I get picked to see if Phillips can bring some comfort to me and my skin overall. I can really only take a breather on my off days but still I like to shave even then and then I grow a full beard when on leave, untill the wife says enough now lol

  3. Pregz

My worst day of shaving: I have to shave everyday because my beard grows wild and untamely. I was on a business trip and I forgot to pack my shaver. I met the client a few days into the trip. It was really rushed and I didn’t have enough time to buy a disposable razor. When the client saw me, he was an old gentlemen, very well groomed and articulate. After the meeting, he was very impressed with my pitch but then he asked me how was my love life .. I found it strange but I answered that it was alright. Without hesitation he replied with a wink.. maybe try grooming every now and then, it will do wonders for the love life … Needless to say .. I now have a spare razor and toothbrush packed at all times in my luggage bag.

  4. Gresham Madhan

    Hey Team

My name is Gresham. I’m in Durban, always well groomed and a social media addict! That’s the good news. The bad news is my sensitive skin. Gets red easily, prone to occasional breakouts and oily making shaving a huge challenge. I really hope to get selected so I can share my transformation with all my friends on social media so those with similar skin conditions can find comfort in Philips…

    Thank you

  5. My Best Day of Shaving: The day I received my (very rare in South Africa) Philips Series 7000 as an African man our facial hair is more curly and prone to bumps after we shave, its great because the removable head to opt for the trimmer works wonders which I prefer to use daily then on occasions when I need a close shave I use the three head razor (noting that I might have a few bumps the next or coming days)

  6. Sibusiso K

Hey Fortress team, I am Sibusiso and I have the most ingrown hairs imaginable. My last shaving experience took close to two hours because I was advised about shaving “Against the grain” or “With the grain” honestly Im not sure but all I can say is that it did not work. On the plus side, I do not have many bumps or overly sensitive skin so I am thankful for that.

  7. Carlo Hendricks

My shaving experience is EVERY 3 DAYS and then it’s sensitive skin, cuts and so much much time wasted to make I shave close, and then rinsing minimal cuts…bleh!
