Top Gear is proud to announce a brand new presenter for Series 23, Friends star Matt LeBlanc.

The US actor, best known for his role as goofy lothario Joey, will be the show’s first non-British host in its 39-year history. “Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear,” said Chris Evans of his new on-screen colleague.

LeBlanc appeared on the original show in 2012 and set the fastest-ever time for their Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment. According to the official Top Gear website, he set an unbeaten lap time of 1m 42.1s in a Kia cee’d.

“As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter,” said Matt. “What a thrill!”

The new cast comes after former host Jeremy Clarkson was sacked by the BBC last year after he assaulted a producer on the show at a hotel. Whether Top Gear remains Top Gear with the absence of Clarkson, Hammond and May remains to be seen.
