Disney Reveals Live Action Aladdin Cast

Disney Finally Managed To Find Non-White Actors For Their Live-Action Aladdin Film

Written by

After initially struggling to find actors suited for the roles, Disney has finally announced who the cast will be in the live action remake of one of Disney’s most well know animated movies, Aladdin.

Disney Reveals Live Action Aladdin Cast

Relatively unknown Egyptian-born Canadian actor Mena Massoud has been cast as the games quick talking protagonist Aladdin. Playing his love interest, Jasmine, is Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott. Will Smith will portray the blue skinned, magic wielding Genie.

With whitewashing still a big issue for some when it comes to casting in Hollywood, many saw Disney’s announcement as a step forward for the industry.

The animated Aladdin movie was released in 1992 (man, now I feel old) and starred the late and great Robin Williams as the genie. Will Smith has really big blue shoes to fill.

The live-action version is being directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). There has been no release date announced for the film yet.

Along with the live-action Aladdin film, Disney is also planning a live-action remake of Dumbo, which is being directed by Tim Burton and is planned for release in 2019.

Oh god Lord instead of hey Disney found good choices for the cast of alladin u say Disney finally found non whites to play, Jesus you are exactly part of the fucking problem

The reason the heading is like that is because Disney really struggled to choose someone of non-white ethnicity. You should have read the article and the news before about it.

Max Maw no they didn’t all that is is a bullshit article, they were most likely taking their time but some pc moron equates that to they couldn’t find someone non white

Max… The title focused on race over the fact that the actors were found. The emphasis on them being “non-white” is the issue we have. Not the content of the actual article.
The fact that it needs such a… Controversial title takes away from any good in the article. It’s the problem with journalism these days. I know this because I am a writer/journalist. Because of issues worldwide, we as a gaming/movie loving/comic reading/all round nerd/geek community should not be falling into the same pitfalls as the rest of the world. We’ve never seen race so why should it matter who now?
It shouldn’t. And the article’s writer should really think about that.

Bad choice for Aladdin. Bad choice for Jasmine. I like Will Smith but I can’t see him as the genie either. Just hope they pull it off so they don’t ruin my childhood!
