LG announced the X Cam smartphone in February this year, with trickled launch dates across Asia, Latin America and Europe starting in March. The announcement for an official release date has finally reached our shores, and is expected to land on 10th August. The LG X Cam will have an RRP of R5,499 and will be released on contract, currently only, on Vodacom. Other operators have yet to be announced as stocking the device in the near future.
As the name would suggest, the smartphone’s primary feature is it’s camera. The rear-facing camera has a dual-lens configuration, which allows it to capture the standard 78° angle on a 13MP sensor, and a wide angle 120° on a 5MP sensor. The camera app will also include a host of shooting modes to provide users with unique features. The LG X Cam also sports a 5.2″ screen with 1080p display, Mediatek MT6753 Octa-core 1.14GHz CPU with Mali-T720MP3 GPU, 2GB RAM, and non-removable 2500mAh battery.
LG GIVES PRESS A TEST DRIVE OF NEW X CAM MOBILE
Device Featuring Innovative Wide-Angle Picture Capture
LG Electronics, a leading mobile innovator, introduced its sleek new X cam smartphone to the media today with a custom experience at Remo’s in Sandton.
Journalists were addressed by the renowned landscape, wildlife and nature photographer, Mitchell Krog, who gave them an insightful overview of wide-angle photography to prepare them for their first experience with a smartphone that takes pictures true to the human view.
“The X cam’s flagship-grade dual camera is a massive talking-point of the phone,” said Deon Prinsloo, GM for LG Mobile at LG Electronics. “The camera takes memory making to the next level, by combining the option of a regular 13-megapixel lens with a 120° Wide Angle Lens that allows you to capture exactly what you see. This makes it the quintessential device for anyone that values collecting memories on-the-go, from adventures abroad to family milestones.”
The press was also treated to a hands-on review of the phone via an informative expedition through Sandton, complete with tips and tricks to make the most of the camera’s impressive wide-angle capability and fun camera effects. Pop-Out Picture combines two images taken with the two separate lenses to create a picture-in-a-frame effect. Animated Photo delivers a hybrid video and still photo, one framed by the other. Auto Shot lets you snap away the selfies without even pressing a button, and Signature enables the addition of captions or bylines to photos. The panoramic function also surpasses that of other devices with a longer and wider, more inclusive view to reveal dramatic scenery in realistic resplendence.
Before the flash preview wrapped up, judges picked the best shots of the day and the winning snapper walked away with their very own X cam. That doesn’t mean the other guests went home empty-handed however. They will have an opportunity to spend some quality time with this dynamic device too, getting a full handle on all it has to offer over the next two weeks.
LG’s new X cam smartphone will be available from Vodacom as of 10 August 2016.
