For many of you that arrived home today, hoping to queue your favourite series from the past weekend, only to realise that your frequently visited torrent hub is not accessible…you aren’t alone. KickassTorrents earlier today lost access to its domain name, kickass.so, which was registered under a Somalian registry. While the domain appeared to be safe for quite some time, government were pressured into forcing the sites operators to seek refuge elsewhere, the domain now listed as being banned. The site has recently grown into one of the most popular destinations for would-be torrenters with more than one million unique visits per day, which, in effect, made it an easy target for officials and copyright protectors. Only time will tell how soon the owners are able to find another home for their site.
As it turns out, the wait wasn’t all that long, with the site now back up using the previously used kickass.to domain (based on the island of Tonga).
